Counseling Center

Survivor-Centered Care for a Stronger Future

Our Counseling Center provides trauma-informed, survivor-led mental health support for girls and women healing from FGM, gender-based violence, and displacement—creating a safe space for recovery, resilience, and renewed hope.

Once rescued and in a safe environment, survivors of gender-based violence need additional and specialized care – sustained, accessible mental health support - to heal and  rebuild lives and futures.

On February of 2026, Mission With A Vision opened a counseling program to expand mental health and psychosocial resources available to Female Genital Mutilation and Forced Childhood Marriage survivors. In addition to counseling, the center also has a team on 24-hour standby to provide rescue services for girls and young women in need.

The new counseling center also plans to have a 24-hour toll free hotline, where anyone in need can call any time of the day or night.

Counseling services are open to all in need irrespective of gender.

MWAV’s mental health resources- and needs -had grown to the point where a dedicated counseling center had become necessary. A full-time psychiatric nurse will also be hired before the summer of 2026. Along with professional staff, some MWAV residents have been trained as counselors through MWAV’s vocational training programs – thus, reassuring the inherent success for a survivor-led center that prioritizes survivors’ needs, voices, and reintegration through implementation of trauma-informed therapy and peer mentorship.
