Breaking cycles of inequality through education
Mission With A Vision is committed to ensuring that every rescued girl has access to education, should she choose it. Many arrive having never attended school or having been forced to abandon their studies due to early marriage or displacement. Regardless of age, each girl is given the opportunity to begin her education—even if that means starting in grade one alongside much younger students, a testament to their resilience and determination. For their safety, most are enrolled in boarding schools, reducing the risk of being taken back by those who previously arranged their marriages.

Over the years, many girls have progressed through primary and secondary school, with some continuing on to college, securing meaningful employment, and building independent lives on their own terms. MWAV’s commitment to education also extends beyond the safe houses and into the broader community. In 2022, with support from Change Your Star Foundation, the organization helped establish Ewangan High School—built on land that had been set aside for a school since 1965 but remained undeveloped for over five decades. Today, the school serves more than 250 students and is staffed by dedicated teachers, with continued support ensuring access to quality education as it transitions to government management.
Recognizing the broader barriers to education, MWAV also implements adult literacy programs in Narok and Kajiado counties, where illiteracy rates remain high. These programs provide reading and writing skills to community members while creating space for dialogue around the importance of girls’ education and the harmful impacts of FGM. By engaging both girls and their communities, MWAV works to create lasting, generational change rooted in knowledge, empowerment, and opportunity.
