The Safehouses: A Sanctuary for Girls Escaping FGM and Child Marriage

Mission With A Vision established its first safehouse in 2004 to protect girls fleeing FGM and early marriage, expanding from 12 to 32 residents by 2007. Growing demand led to a second, larger safehouse in 2013, funded by the Bushenyi Alliance for Rural Development, increasing capacity to 60 girls.

By 2019, the number of girls in need had risen to 72, prompting further expansion. In 2022, with support from Mission Direct and Mundo Corporante, a new spacious safehouse with a working farm was built on eight acres in Nairasirasa, adding space for another 60 girls. Additional support from CREAW and UNFPA in 2023 provided essential furnishings and solar power, and in 2024–2025 Mission Direct and Mundo Corporante funded a new dining hall.

Today, the House of Hope and Enkishon Farm safehouses collectively offer a safe, nurturing home for more than 120 girls, thanks to the ongoing generosity of dedicated partners and donors.

Advocacy Programme

Mission With A Vision has a strong advocacy unit which works in the villages and schools in the fight against FGM, child marriage and all forms of GBV.

The department has reached over 10,000 students and about 2400 adults over the last two years. In 2025 we adopted the theme “Ending, FGM, Child marriage and all forms of GBV through a mindset change”. We believe the most effective way to win the

war against all forms of GBV is to have the community change the perspective on the value they place on FGM. Bring the community on board to understand that FGM and Child marriage has more harm to the girls and absolutely no benefit. The school program is targeting 10- 19 years old. We hope to change the mindset of a whole generation, and once we do this, we are sure that we can end FGM completely if a whole generation decides they will not do it to their children.

Scholarship Program

Mission With A visions believes that every child eserve a chance to education. Since 1997 Mission with a vision has been providing scholarship through generous donations from our sponsors. Our dream is to change the world one girls at a time. Although we do sponsor a few boys most of our scholarships go to rescued girls and girls who at the risk in the community. We believe that if we can give education to more and more girls then we will have a society that is more stable and in the process not only end all forms of GBV but also bring eradicate poverty through empowerment of the girls.

Counseling and Call Centre

Mission with a vision runs and inhouse counselling program. We hope to start a full time counselling and call centre from January 2026. The counselling centre will have a toll free number where girls and women in need can call any time of the day or night. The center will not only provide counselling services but will aslo provide rescue service. This means that a team will be on standby 24 hours a day to provide rescue services for girls and women in need and to provide counselling for all those need it. The counselling services will open to all those in need irrespective of their gender.

Sexual Reproductive Health

This program focuses on the girls knowing themselves and the choices they have. We aim to build their knowledge on sexual and reproductive health. We also train women on the need to use family planning methods to have smaller families that they can manage. We also focus on educating girls and boys on the dangers of unprotected sex that may lead to teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. We put special emphasis on building the students and community awareness on HIV and AIDS

and how they can protect themselves. Mission With A Vision also works on ending stigma around FGM and training the community on the fact that a person can leave a normal life even after contracting HIV.

Clean Water and Sanitation

Mission With A Vision believe that every member of the community deserves clean water. In the past with the support from Opportunity Funds for developing countries we have been able to install many

water harvesting projects in schools. We have also been able to build pit latrines . We believe that every school needs to have clean water and sanitation facilities and we target to install water harvesting system and build pit latrines in at least 100 schools in the next five years from 2026.

Afforestation Program

In 2026, Mission with a vision hopes to start a seedling program that will provide at least 500,000 tree seedlings to the community to be able to rebuild the ecosystem that has lost most of its forest cover, especially in the Mau forest. The nurseries will be in two places. One in Nairasirasa to provide seedlings to the community in the lower Narok region and one in Olpusimoru to provide seedlings to the community in the Mau forests region.

Vocational Training

Mission With A Vision started a vocational training programe in 2022. The vocational training program aims to give skills to rescued girls and teen mothers who cannot join school especially those rescued and already expectant and they need to have a way of supporting their unborn child. The training centre is currently providing training to girls and teen mothers in beauty therapy, hairdressing, knitting, clothing and design, food and beverage, computer programing and AI.

Income Generating Project (School uniform Production Project)

Mission With A Vision is focused on generating income locally to support the safehouses and ensure that despite global financial crisis the safehouses can continue running and providing a safehome for the girls. We have a small uniform production unit and retail shop in town. All the profit coming from this project goes to the support of the safehouse. Our hope is to build the unit to produce uniforms in a massive number to enable us to sell uniforms in wholesale. This will need quite a lot of funds and we are

looking for donors willing to support the programe. Our target is to produce 6,000 to 10,000 school uniforms per year. This will not only provide upkeep for the girls and teen mothers at he safehouse but it will also provide quality and affordable school uniforms to 10,000 students per year.
